Ive been playing it for a day, so i thought i would share my findings.
I will talk about general stuff, not describing every map and gamemode in painful detail, or what the 3 species can do. You can see those in the trailers.
WALL OF TEXT WARNING!!!444(yes, on my keyboard, ! is on 4)
First come first, lets talk about the most important thing:
Blocking!
The whole multiplayer combat system revolves around this. Unlike other fps's g0dl1k3 5h0071n6 5k1ll5 makes so little difference here, that you could be Michael J. Fox and play this game if you got one thing good: blocking. Alien focus jumping at you from the ceiling? You start pulsing his face. WRONG, you are dead. You block his attack, counter it with a smash from your riffles butt, thus sending him on the ground, then you can merrily piss lead on him while he's out.
But lets look at an other situation. Alien charging at you, preparing a heavy attack with his tail. No problem, since i just learned how to block, right? WRONG, you are dead. First you interrupt his heavy attack with a riffle smash, then immediately--what a surprise--you BLOCK! Because he cannot do anything but trying to stun you with a light attack, because he wont have time to prepare another heavy attack before you fry this banana-head (i know its not supposed to resemble a banana, but something else. i know we all know it.) Anyway, alien lieing on the floor peacefully, bullets are flying, just another day in the corps. Sounds good on paper, eh? Poor alien doesnt have chance.
Well i assure you it will rarely come together, for there is the 2. most important factor:
WASD
The above is only true if you two are standing in place front of each other, exchanging blows and never touch the movement buttons. But that peanisut-head will sidestep your block, or run behind, under, above you and the next thing you realize is that you just grew a new tail out of your chest. So you try to follow his movements, try and guess what he will do next and wether you should shoot him now, or block his light, or interrupt his heavy. And in the end, while waiting for respawn, you wonder why you were bothering with this block-interrupt-attack shit and not just shot him and hoped for the best. At least you could have had damaged him a little that way.
This may have sounded like i hate the whole thing and its the stupidest idea since the pregnant-women-kissing predalien in the second AvP movie, but actually its great fun and i love it.
But im pretty sure you all figured this out yourself while playing the DM demo.
GAME BALANCE
Now this is tricky, because the game IS well balanced, however it comes in many forms, but mostly in the form of maps. Every game mode is played on every map, but certain gamemode-map combinations bring out the strenghts or weaknesses of one species or the other. These are not too big, but noticable. Playing infestation on Ruins(large, open map) is a whole new experience than playing it on Temple(a predator temple like in the first avp movie, complete with sliding stairs, changing corridors and whatnot). Thus saying that X species is stronger than the other one is meaningles, unless you specify which map, which gamemode.
Then its just lame.
SERVERS
I dont know what dedicated servers will bring, but the situation currently is not the brightest. The host leaving the game(sriously...)
is common, so are lags, connection timeouts, and long "server search" times. Not to mention the leaderboards, which are a joke right now. The leaders seem to be playing this game for weeks now, at least according to the "time played" indicator. On the good side there are far less kiddies and retards compared to the demo, and people are starting to learn how to play this game.
CHEATERS
Yes, the ass-suckers are already here. I've only seen a speedhacker as of yet, but if there is one, there are others. And you cant kick them.
Well, thats it for today, hope you found some useful information here, and not just TL;DR'd at first glance.
Thanks for reading, feel free to ask anything!
